Prohibited & Restricted Items Policy
Last Updated: July 2026
1. Overview
iMediShare is committed to facilitating the safe, legal redistribution of used medical equipment. This policy outlines which items may and may not be listed on iMediShare, and what additional precautions apply to certain categories.
All listings are subject to review, and iMediShare reserves the right to remove any listing that violates this policy, at its sole discretion, without notice.
2. Prohibited Items
The following items may not be listed on iMediShare under any circumstances, because they are single-use, cannot be safely sanitized/resterilized, are custom-fitted to one individual, or are otherwise unsuitable for redistribution:
Single-use / bodily-fluid contact items
- CPAP masks, cushions, tubing, and humidifier water chambers (the CPAP machine itself is permitted; see Section 3)
- Nebulizer mouthpieces and masks

Diagnostic instruments requiring professional calibration

3. Restricted Items (Permitted, with Required Precautions)
The following categories are permitted, but because they are mechanical, electrical, or life-sustaining devices, listings in these categories will display an additional safety notice, and Seekers will be required to acknowledge an extra disclaimer before claiming the item:
- Portable and stationary oxygen concentrators
- CPAP/BiPAP machines (device only, not mask/tubing/humidifier; see Section 2)
- Hydraulic and electric patient lifts, trapeze units, stand-assist devices
- Suction aspirators/machines (device only)
- Alternating-pressure and low-air-loss mattress systems
- Electric and semi-electric hospital beds
- Lymphedema pump compression systems
“This is a mechanical/electrical or prescription-use medical device. It has not been inspected, calibrated, or certified by iMediShare. We strongly recommend having this device inspected by a qualified biomedical technician or healthcare provider before use.”
4. Permitted Items (Standard Review)
All other listed categories are generally permitted under standard review, including but not limited to:
- Mobility aids: wheelchairs, scooters, rollators, walkers, canes, crutches
- Bathroom safety equipment: shower chairs, commodes, grab bars, transfer benches
- Patient support furniture: lift chairs/recliners, overbed tables, IV poles
- Non-custom orthopedic braces and supports: ankle-foot orthoses, wrist/hand splints, neck collars, shoulder immobilizers
- General personal care aids: TENS units, blood pressure monitors, caregiver pagers/alarms, reusable digital thermometers
- Pressure care support surfaces (non-motorized): foam overlays, wedge cushions, gel packs
5. Donor Responsibilities
Donors listing any item, including Permitted items, must:
- Clean and sanitize the item appropriately for its type before transfer
- Disclose any known defects, damage, or missing parts
- Disclose whether the item has ever been part of a manufacturer recall
- Not list any item found in Section 2 (Prohibited Items)
6. Reporting a Violation
If you see a listing that you believe violates this policy, please report it via support@imedishare.org. iMediShare will review flagged listings promptly.
7. Policy Updates
iMediShare may update this list at any time as we learn more about specific device categories, receive guidance from legal/insurance advisors, or respond to incidents. Material changes will be reflected with a new “Last Updated” date.
